Osaka Airport, officially known as Kansai International Airport (IATA: KIX, ICAO: RJBB), is an international airport located on an artificial island in Osaka Bay, 38 kilometers southwest of Osaka Station, within the municipalities of Izumisano, Sennan and Tajiiri of Osaka prefecture, and at 50 kilometers from Osaka city center.

 

Osaka Kansai International Airport was named after the name of the region which Osaka is the designated city.


Osaka Kansai International Airport is located off the Honshu shore in an artificial island; it was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano.

On 2014, Osaka Kansai International Airport became an Asian hub, hosting more than 500 flights weekly.

About Osaka

Osaka is the main city of Osaka prefecture, the designated city of Kansai region, which conforms the second largest metropolitan area in Japan after Tokyo. It has a total population of 2,668,586 inhabitants.

Best time to visit Osaka is on Fall season, since the “tsuyu” rainy season is over and cool temperatures precedes hot and humid Summer, so it is worth for taking a trip to the city.

Osaka has a large culinary culture. Locals refer to Osaka as the nation’s kitchen, since it was known in the past as a merchant city for being the centre for the rice trade on Edo period. It is worthy to taste local specialities such as Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki and Oshizushi and also drink some sake, which Osaka is well-known for its fine flavour.

Some of the most recognizable sightseeings are the Osaka Castle, dated of 1583, the Sanko Shrine, founded on the 5th century, Umeda Sky Building, which hosts an outstanding floating garden observatory, and Nakanoshima Park, where a beautiful rose garden is located.

Regarding cultural events, features the Tenjin Matsuri festival taking place between July 24 and 25 at Ikukunitama Shrine. It is celebrated to honour the deity of scholarship, Sugawara Michizane.
